Inspiration Strikes: “Mildred Pierce”

Man Friend recently found a hot deal to sign us up for HBO, so I’ve been on-demanding the “Mildred Pierce” miniseries.  I’ve long been a fan of the 1945 original, a seminal, pulpy film noirstarring Joan Crawford as the steely-jawed single mother (watch it!).   Apart from enjoying Kate Winslet’s take on the titular character, I’ve been loving the wardrobe!  ’30’s lawn prints, cozy sweaters, hats– even Joan’s “degrading” waitress uniform, a crisp white number with brown gingham accents, is cute and feels very authentic to the era.  I’m not sure if I could pull off any of these looks, but I especially love how pairing darker sweaters with bright pastel prints balances out their sweetness.  Kudos to the wardrobe department!

Got something to say?
