London, Edinburgh, Paris?

Hi friends!  I’m nearly off on a two-week jaunt to London, Edinburgh, and Paris, and I’m wondering if you have any recommendations for things to do/see in those cities!  It’s my first time in Europe since I was a tiny tot, so I’m really excited and ready for adventure!  Of course, I’ll be heading to Liberty of London and La Droguerie… any other suggestions, make-y or otherwise?

I hope the next two weeks are lovely for you guys!  I’ll see you when I get back!

  1. Never been to Edinburgh, but I’ve been to London last Summer and twice to Paris. The obvious tourist spots I really enjoyed were, for London: The British Museum (if you’re into this sort of stuff, you’ll need a looooot of time, though), Traffalgar Square – cause it’s really beautiful and there’s a certain ambiance – and Camden Town. For Paris: The Père Lachaise Cemetery is incredibly beautiful, and the area around the Sacré Coeur is really nice especially later in the evening. There are usually musicians playing on the steps in front of the basilica + the view is magnificent. In both cities, the spots I liked most, though were the ones I just stumbled upon by accident. I love walking around in cities I don’t know without a real goal.

    Enjoy your trip!

    • Thanks for the recommendations! I loved the British Museum! We’re staying right near the Sacré Coeur– you’re right, the view is incredible (and explained why it feels like we’re ALWAYS walking uphill!)! I agree with you– my favorite thing to do is to walk around without a plan or structure. I love to do that (even in my own city)!

  2. I spent a wonderful romantic weekend with my husband in Paris last year, and our indispensable guidebook for eating out was “Hungry for Paris,” by Alexander Lobrano. He used to be one of the Paris corespondents for Gourmet. The book covers the 100 or so best neighborhood bistros in the city, organized by neighborhood (so you can find something good wherever you are). Seriously good eating, at very reasonable prices.

If you’re up for creepy, the catacombs are pretty wild!

    Bon voyage!
