Hey, dudes! Oops– I’ve been super MIA the last week or so! I’m steadily working away on my next project, but it’s been pretty slow going. I had a bit of a serger accident the other night, so spent last night sorting out that mess. I’m trying to take my time and do things right (with a varying degree of success), but I’d be lying if I said this project hasn’t been accompanied by buckets of tears! What can I say? I’m an emotional sewist! 🙂 I’m really looking forward to finishing up, having a cute new FO, and moving on!
Lest you think I’ve been all work and no play, look! Pretty new fabric! I found this at Mood, basically fell in love, and spent a decent chunk of time at home stroking it, rubbing it on my cheek, and cooing to Man Friend, “Isn’t this the prettiest thing you’ve ever seen?” (pretty sure he thinks I’ve finally lost it completely!).
What do you think? Prettiest fabric ever?

I want to move into a nice home in the country with this fabric and raise a beautiful family.
I was convinced that it was… UNTIL…

Wipe the drool off your keyboards!! It’s bad for computers.
This came into my life! The lovely and unbelievably generous Miss Dibs sent me this BEAUTIFUL silk twill from Liberty of London. GUYS. It is soooo soft, the weight is truly unbelievable, and this print is KILLER! I’m honestly a little intimidated by it! THANK YOU, Dibs! You’re the sweetest!!
What about you guys? Any fun new fabric crushes? What are you working on these days??
Eek! I love them both, how will you ever have the heart to cut into them?!

Oh my gosh, it’s so scary! I’m tempted to frame them and hang them up as decorations!

They are really lovely. What do you think you will make from them. I always save special fabrics for that perfect outfit that never seems to get made. haha maybe curtains are a good idea so you can see the fabric everyday 😉

I’m planning a dress for the red fabric, but I haven’t decided which pattern to use yet (it’s narrow fabric, only like 35″ wide, so I will have to use a creative layout to get everything to fit!). I think I’ll make a little tank top from the Liberty silk, but I’m still deciding. Any suggestions? I have 1 meter…

wow, both of those are gorgeous!! I’m thinking the month of July is busy for a lot of people (lots of blogs have been kinda quiet)… I think it’s gonna be another week before I see my sewing machine again 😦 No new fabrics… but I’m quite envious of yours!!

It has been busy! It seems like lots of people are traveling. I’m back to work on a crazy job, so I’ll probably be posting a little less, oh, until February or so. 😦
Hope you get some sewing time in soon! 😉

Oh that Mood fabric is lovely – what a great colour! I can’t wait to see what you do with it. Sorry you’re having problems with your latest project. If it’s the Macaron I hope you’re not having the same problems as I had. I’m working on the Minoru jacket. I lengthened it though and now I need a longer zip but I may have to buy that online!

Thanks, lady! I haven’t started the Macaron yet– I’m hoping that goes smoothly! I can’t wait to see your Minoru jacket! I want to make one this fall!

What gorgeous fabrics! Is that like a little volcano there? It’s so Japan/Hawaii-like and just really beautiful!
I recently bought some silk on my last trip to Boston and the print is so nice (and the feel so soft) that I drove all the way back home (like 4-ish hours) with it draped over me! I felt kind of silly, but who cares! I still don’t know what I’ll sew with it.
P.S. I’ve had some accidents with the serger before too… and I think the tears did start swelling, so I feel your pain 😦

I think maybe it’s Mt. Fuji? That’s what the guy at the fabric store thought, anyway! I’m excited to see what you make with your silk! The dress I’m working on now is the first I’ve made with silk, and it’s challenging to sew with, but it feels amazing!

Ack, both pieces are beautiful *swoon*! Cannot wait to see what they become…the colours will look great on you! I recently stumbled on some fabrics from 40s and 50s at a local vintage shop which I snapped up (and will be blogging about soon)…though I have no idea if I’ll ever muster the courage to cut into them! Stitching-wise, I’m not working on anything at the moment – since my Hazel drama I’ve been away and now I’m back I have a few busy weekends coming up…but I’m itching to get back to sewing soon!

Sorry about your emotional sewing incident, I get that way too, sometimes, when things just will not work out. it can be very frustrating. 😉
And I’m working on some costume commissions! At this point, it’s the only thing employing this recent college grad. Oh, and cat-sitting. 😉

Ugh, it’s so silly, but you can get so wound up about sewing! I start to freak out after a couple of setbacks, and it’s so hard to recover!
I’m excited to see your commissions (if your clients [eep! you have clients!] allow photos)!

oh my gosh! I’m totally with you – I’m an emotional sewer. With my latest project, I have been very down because it’s taking me more than 3 months to sew a stinking shirt, short, and pair of undies! For reals Maddie! But every where I turn there’s a new obstacle, the newest one being that I have to quilt an interlining to the damn thing because tweed needs some serious stabilization. Hang in there girl and do it right. No cheating on either of our parts!

It’s so silly– I start to feel so bad about myself when I things aren’t going well in the sewing world! I know your outfit will be SO cute when it’s done, and totally worth all the effort. Let’s pinkie-swear to stick it out and do things right!

That liberty fabric is to die for. I’d definitely be hemming and hawing over what to do with it? (And rubbing it against my cheek. I really do that.) I like the ‘country’ fabric too–it’d be a cool little jacket. What do you think you’ll make?

Oooo, lovely! I love the graphic poppy print especially– those Liberty folks know what they’re doing. The first strikes me as something that I might see in the movie Pearl Harbor, all blousy and forties and South Pacific-y. So pretty! Thanks for sharing!
My current fabric crushes are a tomato red fabric I bought for a project in the Colette book that I just prewashed, and the knitted fabric of a sweater I’m working on. The red fabric is from a nice fabric store I recently discovered north of Dallas that has the most beeyootiful things. I run around touching things until the 47th time someone asks if I need any help and then force myself to buy what i need instead of the fuscia alpaca coating. I’m coming back for that coating one of these days 🙂

Fuchsia alpaca sounds AMAZING! I would LOVE to see you make something with that!

I love that red fabric. Would I be a terrible copycat if I asked you where you found it in Mood? I’m finding that fabric therapy is the perfect cure for bad days at work.
LikeLike
I fully support fabric therapy (probably a little too much… pretty sure Man Friend’s going to kill me if I bring home anything else!). It was in the silk section where the printed chiffons and that sort of thing are, in the back section of that row. It’s a very narrow selvedge width– something like 35″, so keep that in mind.
