Odds + Ends Vol. 2: Guest Post, Me-Made-May ’13, + Giveaway Winner!

Today on the blog we’re TCB-ing like Elvis!  OK, with 93% fewer karate chops, but still, taking care of business, nonetheless.

First up, I have a guest post where I talk about style and sewing (as well as which aging rockers are still hunks, in my book) over at Seamstress Erin today.  Read it, fools!  Just kidding– I know you’re all super smart.

Next item of business– Me-Made-May ’13 is rapidly approaching!  It’s time again to dig into your handmade closets with the savvy and possible old-timey computer of Cher Horowitz and actually wear the things you make!  I’m signing up this year, and am super excited!

I, Sonja of Ginger Makes, sign up as a participant of Me-Made-May ’13. I endeavour to wear one handmade garment each day for the duration of May 2013

Last year I participated, but I only signed up to wear me-made three days a week.  At the time, I had a very slim handmade wardrobe, and I basically wore the same four shirts over and over and over.  I was super bored with them by the end of the month!  But this year, I’m looking forward to wearing my handmade clothes with greater frequency.  One garment every day will be a serious challenge for me, but I’m looking forward to creating new outfits with pieces that I wear one way all the time or that spend a lot of time hanging out in the closet alone.  Want in on the fun?  Buzz over to Zo’s blog and sign up here!

Next up on the docket– the Drape Drape 3 giveaway winner!  According to Random.org, our winner is…

# 98… which is…

…Nicola Johnson!  Congrats, girl! I’ll pack this up and get it out soon.

What’s up with you guys?  Who’s participating in Me-Made-May ’13?  What else is going on?  Working on anything exciting?

  1. Yep, just signed up to MMM 13 yesterday. Am slightly nervous that you’ve struggled with it before, since you seem to have about 900% more handmade garments than me, but I’ll give it a go!

    • This time last year I really didn’t– I had made two Ginger skirts (I don’t actually wear A-line skirts and I didn’t have much that paired with them), one Sorbetto top, two Tiny Pocket tanks, and one Renfrew that was weather-appropriate. I just wore those over and over and over!

  2. Me made madness! I love seeing everyone’s pledges and I’m sure you’ll rock yours.

Me? I have a Chanel jacket variation idea, but need to figure out if it’s actually possible. Also, my fabric reminds me of Big Bird but maybe in an early-nineties, Cher-and-Dee sort of way?

  4. Looking forward to seeing your MMM fun outfits! We’re going to be packing the first two weeks in May and on the road across Canada the last two. I really can’t see adding the MMM challenge into the mix because it would go something like this: tear down tent, sit in sweaty car for hours on end, set up tent, cook dinner on a camping stove, do dishes in a basin, go hiking, wear a ton of mosquito repellent and sunblock, shower every couple of days AND take photos of self looking glamorous and wearing fabulous outfits while doing all these things. Except there will not be glamour or fabulous outfits. Maybe next year. In the meantime I shall vicariously participate in MMM 2013 through all my bloggy friends. Have fun!

  5. I love, love your guest interview…you have such a great way with words and a great sense of style to boot ;o) And well done for signing up to MMM13! I so wanna, but I need to take a realistic look at my me-made wardrobe (I wear relatively little of it) and decide if I can pull it off this year!

    • It is fun! It’s nice to have a reason to push yourself to actually wear the things you make. Last year I was such a newbie at sewing that I felt really precious about what I had made and was afraid to wear things! But what’s the point of working so hard on garments to let them hang in your closet unworn? 🙂

  6. I really loved your guest post – very thoughtful and eloquent!

I’m trying to decide whether or not to do MMM – I keep waffling! I’m going to be gone for 2 weeks in May, so that really does make it a challenge!

  8. I am still planning to see what my MMM goal could be, I have never participated before. Only problem will be that I will be on holiday for 3 weeks of it – do I have enough holiday clothes?? I will know more after this weekend’s frantic sewing!!

  9. I read your guest post and it was great, I totally feel the same way about sewing, that I am finally dressing like “me” 🙂 I keep waffling over MMM, I am sewing like crazy right now and I feel like I need a little break (not from sewing, but more from having to photograph those outfits every day!) Right now I am working on a couple of Colette Laurel dresses, an Archer button up, and my first time sewing with silk, eek! And a bunch of clothes for my kids…and other random projects. Your blog is always fun to read, thanks 🙂

    • I’m loving your blog– everything you make is so perfect and cool! I’m working on an Archer buttonup, too, and need to fix my Laurel muslin. Looking forward to seeing yours! Your Laurel tops turned out beautifully!

  10. No MMMay for me this year–the timing with the wedding and the busiest season at the garden shop and moving is just too much! But one of my post-wedding goals is to spend a lot of time hanging out in my new sewing room so I can make lots of stuff for next year’s. 🙂

That closet computer thing was seriously the best part about Clueless. I still kind of want one…

Ok, off to read that guest post! And finish getting ready for work.

  11. Yay, I’m glad you’re taking part in Me Made May! Looking forward to seeing what you wear this year. 🙂 (I was following you last year as well, it was fun watching how you mixed and matched your wardrobe then, and now you’ve got far more garments to play with! 🙂

(And oh man, how I’d love that rotating closet of Cher’s. *sigh*)

  12. I’m really looking forward to Me Made May this year! I always love seeing what other people do, and it’s my first year participating. I’m a little nervous, but I definitely have some pieces that need more wear, or that need a little, tiny, five-minute alteration or repair that I couldn’t be bothered to fix before.
